    What is Elderflower Liqueur?

If you've visited Garnish with Lemon before, you know that we are big fans of elderflower in our cocktails, and these white wine spritzers are no exception!

Elderflower has a delicately sweet and floral flavor that tastes amazing in so many cocktails. We love it so much we dedicated a whole post about what it is, plus all our favorite cocktails. You can read more about elderflower liqueur here!

    FAQS

What type of white wine should I use?

The key to white wine spritzers is NOT selecting an expensive bottle of wine. Reserve your favorite nice bottles for sipping alone. Instead, select a mid-range wine. No need to break the bank!

We also recommend a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio for this cocktail. Avoid using any oak aged wines like Chardonnay as the flavors will clash with the elderflower.

Can I use flavored sparkling water in white wine spritzers?

Of course! We encourage it! It's the easiest way to change up the flavor profiles. Try mixing with lemon, lime, or grapefruit flavored sparkling water.

What fruit makes the best garnish for this recipe?

Any fruit would really taste great here! Lemon or lime peels are a great option. But you can also add berries or even melon to highlight the best flavors of summer.

Expert Tips for the Best Cocktails

    • Always make sure the wine is chilled. Cold drinks are the best drinks.
    • This is a perfect time to use a less expensive bottle of wine. Save the special wine for another time.
    • Flavored sparkling waters are a great way to play around with different flavor combinations.
    • Don't forget the garnish. Not only does it make the drink look pretty, the oils from the lemon peel add a nice citrusy flavor.

I’m having a party Halloween and looking to make a delicious but not too sweet big batch cocktail. Never tried elderflower liquor, is it really sweet?
      Thanks!

Hi Susan! Elderflower is one of our favorite liqueurs! It isn't super sweet, but has a subtle sweetness about it. A big difference in the sweetness of these cocktails will be with what wine you choose, so be sure to pick something you love to drink by itself! We have a whole category of Elderflower cocktails if you want to learn more about them! Good luck! Hope this helps!

          Hi Rachel,
You can use whatever wine is your favorite. I prefer a drier wine so that I what I used, but if Riesling is your favorite-go for it!I haven't had the Fentiman's but it sounds outstanding! Let me know how it is!
