    Why you'll love this recipe

✔︎ Fresh blueberries do double duty in this cocktail. Not only do they give it a gorgeous purple color, they also add a punch of juicy blueberry flavor.

✔︎ It's easy to make! You only need a handful of ingredients for this fresh margarita that you probably already have on hand.

✔︎ It's a great batch cocktail. Sure, you can make just one but you can also easily make it in a pitcher. Suddenly happy hour is a snap to host!

    Ingredients and Substitutions

The ingredient list is short and sweet for this easy cocktail.

Ingredients needed to make blueberry margaritas.

    Ingredient Notes:

Blueberries: Fresh blueberries give the best flavor and color to the simple syrup, but frozen can be used in a pinch.

Tequila: I like a blanco tequila for this cocktail but use your favorite. Just make sure it's 100% agave whatever brand you decide to use.

Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice is the only way to go when are you using it for cocktails.

Grand Marnier: This is my orange liqueur of choice, but feel free to use Cointreau or Triple Sec in its place.

    Instructions

The hardest part about making a blueberry margarita is waiting for the simple syrup to be done.

    Making the blueberry simple syrup.

Add water, blueberries and sugar to small pan and bring to a boil. Mash the berries and strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve. Refrigerate the syrup until ready to use.

Adding juice and liquors to shaker.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add tequila, Grand Marnier and lime juice.

    FAQs

    Can I use frozen blueberries?

Yes, you can use frozen blueberries in a pinch, but fresh blueberries are so abundant in the summer that I prefer using them.

How long will the blueberry syrup stay fresh?

It will stay fresh in the refrigerator for a week - 10 days, but it can also be frozen for up to 3 months.

Can this be made as a mocktail?

Absolutely! Omit the tequila and Grand Marnier and use tonic water or club soda in its place. It won't have the same taste without the tequila but will still be delicious!

Expert Tips for making the BEST Blueberry Margarita

▶︎ Make the blueberry simple syrup ahead of time and keep it in the refrigerator until ready to use. You can also freeze it in ice cube trays to have individual portions ready to go.

▶︎ Use good tequila. When an ingredient list is so short, the high quality ingredients make a big difference.

▶︎ Love a little heat in your cocktails? Muddle a jalapeno slice in the bottom of the cocktail shaker with the lime juice before adding the blueberry simple syrup and liquors. The spicy-sweet combo tastes amazing!

▶︎ Serving a group? Make a pitcher of these margs ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator until serving. Simply shake and pour into salted glasses filled with ice and your cocktails are ready to go!
