These Buttermilk Waffles with Cherry-Vanilla Sauce are a fabulous addition to brunch! We give you all the make-ahead tips you need to make waffles for a crowd while still enjoying the party. And who can resist that Cherry-Vanilla Sauce?
112-ounce bag frozen pitted sweet cherries (do not thaw)
1cupcherry jam
1teaspoonpure vanilla extract
Buttermilk Waffles:
2cupsall-purpose flour
3tablespoonssugar
1 ½teaspoonsbaking powder
½teaspoonsalt
2cupsbuttermilk
6tablespoonsunsalted buttermelted
Extra melted butter for greasing waffle iron
Instructions
To make the Cherry-Vanilla Sauce
Combine frozen cherries and jam in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Boil until sauce thickens slightly, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract
To make the Buttermilk Waffles:
Preheat oven to 175-200 degrees and turn on your waffle iron to desired temperature.
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl and whisk to blend. Stir in buttermilk and 6 tablespoons melted butter. When the waffle iron is ready, brush with extra melted butter and pour ½ cup of batter (or more, depending on the size of your waffle iron) over each waffle grid. Cook until waffles are golden brown on both sides. Transfer waffles to oven racks to keep warm for up to 30 minutes. Repeat process with the remaining batter, brushing waffle iron with melted butter as needed.
