Need a quality meal in hurry? Look no further than Piada Italian Street Food.
Even the most brilliant chefs need a day off from cooking. And though we don’t claim to be anywhere near brilliant status, there are days when being in the kitchen is the last thing we crave. Having someone else cook for us is like dream come true, especially on our typically overscheduled weeknights. So we were crazy excited when a fast casual restaurant that is new to the Twin Cities area invited us to a sneak peek at their debut location here in our hometown. We had never heard of Piada Italian Street Food before, but now that we’re fully acquainted, you can bet they will be seeing a LOT more of us in the future.
The concept for the restaurant started as an idea scribbled on a napkin during a visit to Rimini, Italy. Piada’s founders wanted to bring the fresh, modern Italian street food that they fell in love with back to the U.S. Think pastas, salads, and their namesake item, Piadas.
We ate our way through nearly all of the menu during our behind the scenes visit, and though it’s tough to pick favorites, we have to admit that we STILL talk about the calamari with hot peppers and the perfectly cooked salmon (which is always fresh, never frozen – how often do you find that at a fast casual restaurant?).
Even dessert has an Italian theme. The homemade cannoli chips with a cream cheese chocolate chip icing are pretty addicting on their own, but they taste even better when washed down with an Italian soda (orange is my favorite). Blink and you might just think for a moment that you are on the streets of Italy.
We love that we can stop at Piada and everyone can get exactly the meal they want. It’s fast, fresh and reasonably priced. Not to mention there is enough variety on the menu that you can eat there frequently and not feel like you are eating the same thing. That’s huge for us.
Piada’s first Minnesota location is in Chanhassen, but more are planned, including a location opening soon at the Mall of America. (Not in Minnesota? Don’t fret, Piada also has locations in Indiana, Ohio, New York, Michigan and Texas!) We couldn’t be happier to have them as new neighbors because their focus on healthier, better quality food with convenient, fast delivery is just what our busy lives need.
Plus who can argue with a day off from cooking? Especially when it tastes this good.
